Imogas is containing 240 mg simethicone in capsules. It is used to treat meteorism and can be administered after a meal. One randomized, double blinded, double dummy, placebo and active comparator (cisapride, which is not sold in Denmark at the moment) study has been carried out and describes the effect of simethicone effect on metorism. An eight week long study included 184 persons distributed in 3 arms with the diagnose dyspepsia. The effect of simethicone was evaluated in a standardized questionnaire, where patients were graded from 0 (no discomfort) to 3 (severe discomfort) in each of the 10 questions. After 8 weeks an absolute statistic significant in effect between simeticon- and placebo-arm 13,3 % (NNT=8), while no statistic significance between simethicone- and- cisapride-arm was found. Imogas costs 69,75 Dkr for 30 capsules and a daily dosis costs approximately 7 Dkr. Imogas is not under the rules of general reimbursement. Besides Imogas excist the drugs Aeropax (dimethicone) and Mylicon (dimethicone) marketed to treat of meteorism. Neither drugs containing dimethicone have a fixed price. IRF states that there is not a case in using simethicone in the treatment of meterorism, because of the lack of evidence and material of erratic quality.
