Coldamin® (benzydamine hydrochloride)

Conclusion
Coldamin contains benzydamine hydrochloride, is available over the counter (pharmacy-only) and is approved for short-term treatment of mouth and throat pain in adults and children aged 6 and older.

It is IRF's overall assessment that neither Coldamin nor any available lozenges with analgesic, antiseptic or anti-inflammatory effect can be recommended since the evidence of efficacy is weak. However, it cannot be ruled out that they may be perceived as offering symptom relief. In those cases where a local anaesthetic lozenge is impractical (e.g. at night or for children aged 6 or older), Coldamin may be considered as a relevant alternative for symptomatic treatment of trivial sore throat. Coldamin may be somewhat more expensive compared to lozenges with local anaesthetic effect.
